During January and February USS SARGO continued its WESTPAC deployment. The USS SARGO conducted upkeeps at Guam and Subic Bay, Philippines and made a port visit to Hong Kong, B.C.

In March USS SARGO conducted an extended submerged training exercise.

In April USS SARGO continued her WESTPAC deployment making a port visit to Chinhae, Korea before returning Pearl Harbor, HI.

USS SARGO remained inport at Pearl Harbor the remainder of April through June.

In August USS SARGO was presented the CICPACFLT Golden Anchor award by RADM J.N. Darby, COMSUBPAC, for the top enlisted retention in the Pacific Submarine Fleet.

RADM Darby was embarked for USS SARGO’s final underway operations (on nuclear power) during 17-22 September 1986. Once again her torpedo batteries proved accurate during very successful proficiency firings. The ship plied Pacific waters submerged for the last time as she operated with two of the nation’s newest 688 Class submarines and the USS New Jersey (BB-62) and her battle group.

In October the ship received the Squadron Seven “C” for excellence in radio communications.

On 06 October 1986 USS SARGO crossed the sill of Dry Dock #3 at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard to end her operational career and commence inactivation.
