During January and February USS SARGO conducted a Selected Restricted Availability (SRA) and completed Sea Trials.

In March participated in BGAREM-85, an ASW exercise in local Hawaiian waters. During April and May USS SARGO completed an upkeep and conducted local operations, before completing a Tactical Readiness Examination (TRE) and a Supply Management Inspection.

In May USS SARGO deployed to the Eastern Pacific, conducting Midshipmen orientation cruises out of San Diego, CA.

CHANGE OF COMMAND

Upon return to Pearl Harbor, HI CDR R. Michael Camp relieved CDR Robert S. Holbrook as USS SARGO’s last Commanding Officer on 13 July 1985.

In August USS SARGO completed a Pre-Overseas Movement (POM) upkeep, a highly successful Operational Reactor Safeguards Examination (ORSE) in September and deployed to the Western Pacific in October for the nineteenth and final time. USS SARGO remained a first line “Fighting Lady” to the end. During this deployment she conducted her longest transit in the past eleven years and her longest period of independent continuous submerged operation in the past seven years.

During October through December USS SARGO visited Guam and Subic Bay, Philippines.
