USS SARGO completed its refueling overhaul on March 15, 1983. During this overhaul the ship received a significant upgrade to her sonar suite including the installation of the new Submarine Towed Array Sonar System (STASS). |

On 17 August 1983 CDR Robert S. Holbrook relieved CAPT John H. Cox as Commanding Officer in Pearl Harbor, HI. |

In September USS SARGO conducted an IMA upkeep before deploying to the Eastern Pacific. USS SARGO visited the following ports: Esquimalt, B.C.,
Canada; Seattle, WA; and Oakland, CA.
USS SARGO also completed, while on deployment a Tactical Readiness Evaluation, before returning to Pearl Harbor, HI. |
