USS SARGO completed its refueling overhaul on March 15, 1983. During this overhaul the ship received a significant upgrade to her sonar suite including the installation of the new Submarine Towed Array Sonar System (STASS).

CHANGE OF COMMAND

On 17 August 1983 CDR Robert S. Holbrook relieved CAPT John H. Cox as Commanding Officer in Pearl Harbor, HI.

  Sonar Division: STSC(SS) Alan Lamoureux, STSSN(SU) Mark Creswell, STS2(SS) Jerry Edens, STS2(SS) Dan Panek, STS2(SS) Dave Moore, and Sonar Division Officer LTJG Zizmanik.

In September USS SARGO conducted an IMA upkeep before deploying to the Eastern Pacific. USS SARGO visited the following ports: Esquimalt, B.C., Canada; Seattle, WA; and Oakland, CA.

USS SARGO also completed, while on deployment a Tactical Readiness Evaluation, before returning to Pearl Harbor, HI.
