The USS SARGO continued, in January, the refueling overhaul at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and successfully completed the Reactor Safeguards Examination.

On 16 February USS SARGO completed initial criticality on its new Reactor Core and on 28 February 1975 the USS SARGO successfully completed Power Range Testing.

In March USS SARGO conducted post overhaul sea trials off Oahu and completed the refueling overhaul on 17 April 1975, and returned to SUBASE, Pearl Harbor, HI. The USS SARGO spent May conducting local operations off of Oahu, HI and in June entered into upkeep at Pearl Harbor, HI. SARGO successfully completed its INSURV, Diesel, and 3M inspections.

CHANGE OF COMMAND

On 25 July 1975 LCDR Henry J. Barfield, USN relieved CDR Michael A. Mc Bride, USN as Commanding Officer in Pearl Harbor, HI.

USS SARGO spent August through September completing Weapons Systems Accuracy Test and MK 48 Torpedo Final Certification.

USS SARGO conducted local operations out of Pearl Harbor, HI in October and commenced an upkeep at Pearl Harbor, HI.

In November the USS SARGO completed the upkeep at Pearl Harbor, HI and conducted two weeks of local operations. The last two weeks of November were spent in final preparations for an extended deployment to the Western Pacific.

After several false-starts, because of problems in the engineering plant, the USS SARGO deployed to the Western Pacific on 10 December and spent Christmas of 1975 in Guam.

For service on USS SARGO the LT Richard W. Talipsky and RMCM Robert A. Gerle were presented the Navy Achievement Medal. MM2(SS) Normal L. Allbritton, Jr. and LCDR Pete J. Graef were presented the Navy Commendation Medal.

LTJG Stanley J. Mack, LTJG Thomas D. Hall, SKC(SS) R.D. McGowan, MM1(SS) J. A. Raudsep, RM2(SS) Jimmy J. Gruver were presented COMSUBPAC Letters of Commendation. STSC(SS) Davey L. Jones, QMC(SS) Samuel W. Jones, ETC(SS) Floyd H. Chilcoat, MMC(SS) K. H. Beachem, EM1(SS) B. D. Contine, IC1(SS) T. W. Walker, TM1(SS) Monty L. Hadley, MM2(SS) Ed R. Powers, MM2(SS) Eugene D. Lewis, ETR3(SS) Michael R. Hacking, ETR3(SS) William R. Genung, and IS3(SS) D. K. Chapman were presented COMSUBRON ONE Letters of Commendation.
