Born 12 November 1938 in rural Covington County, Mississippi. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy 5 June 1956 as High School Hospital Recruit. (HSHR) Received Recruit Training at NRTC, San Diego, California. Upon completion of Basic Training, assigned to TAD at Naval Station, San Diego, awaiting Hospital Corpsman Class A School. 1956-1957 Received lifelong training in Naval personnel snaffus while enduring seven transfers between Naval Station San Diego, Naval Hospital San Diego and Naval Hospital Corps School during a four month period. Promoted to HN upon completion of Hospital Corpsman School. Assigned to Field Medical Service School at Camp Pendleton, California where training in the art of First Aid, throwing hand grenades, firing, field stripping and reassembling rifles and pistols and military behavior were taught. 1957-1958 Tour of duty (18 months) with 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division FHF in Japan, Philippines and Okinawa. Advanced to HM3. 1958-1959 Attended Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank Technic School (14 month): USNH Bremerton, Washington. Advanced to HM2 1959. 1960 Six months at Naval CB Center, Port Huenema, California. 1960-1963 U.S. Naval Hospital (Laboratory) San Diego, California. 1963 Basic Submarine and Submarine Medicine School, Submarine Base, Groton, Connecticut. 1963-1964 USS Halfbeak (SS 352) Qualified in Submarines. 1964-1965 USS Tusk (SS 426) Advanced to HM1 (SS) 1965 1965 Nuclear Submarine Medicine School, Groton, CT. 1966 TAD USS Robert E. Lee (SSBN 601), Gold 1966-1967 USS George Bancroft (SSBN 643), (Blue) 1967-1970 U.S. Naval Hospital St. Albans, N.Y. Advanced to HMC (SS) 1969 1970-1973 USS Sargo (SSN 583) COB 1971-1972 Advanced to HMCS (SS) 1972 1973-1978 Headquarters First Marine Corps District, Garden City, New York. Advanced to HMCM (SS) 1974 28 April 1978 Transferred to US Navy Fleet Reserve. 1978-1988 Laboratory Night Shift Supervisor South Central Regional Medical Center, Laurel, MS Attended Jones County Community College and University of Southern Mississippi, received Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. 1988-2000 Laboratory Manager Medical Pathology Laboratory LTD, Laurel, MS Divorced: 1987 Remarried: 1988 On 22 Nov 2003 Master Chief Coleman departed on Eternal Patrol.
